Read on to learn some simple and effective tips to ensure your guests have a sustainable Airbnb experience.
1. Use Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
From thoughtful cleaning practices to prioritizing sustainability, there are many ways to make your Airbnb property eco-friendly. What cleaning products you use during your turnover are so important. We only use Method products in our Airbnb, they do not leave behind any toxic or harmful fumes or residues and are generally a good option for guests with allergies and chemical sensitivities. love them because they have natural scents like grapefruit, lemongrass, and eucalyptus, which make your Airbnb smell clean and fresh, without heavy chemical smells.
2. Change Your light Bulbs to LED
Ready to make a quick and simple change that can save you money and help the environment? LED lighting is the answer! LED light bulbs use up to 90% less power than traditional bulbs, last up to 25 times longer, and are more affordable than ever. It’s an eco-friendly Airbnb hosting easy tip!
3. Invest in good quality linens
Don’t do microfiber. It may seem like a great option as they tout it as being wrinkle free but it’s basically made of plastic. Every time you wash it microplastics are released into the water system, they pill after a few washes and make guests feel sweaty at night. The next sheets you should buy should be 100% cotton, high quality, and made sustainably. We use California Den, they are by far my favorite sheets, buttery soft and they wash up amazingly.
A hosting tip I can give you is to hang the duvet cover to dry, then put it in the dryer for 10 mins, you barely will have a wrinkle. No ironing is needed.
4. Use Eco-Friendly Toiletries
Eco-friendly toiletries give a luxury feel, are nice to use, and are safe for your guests. They are also a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. The best part is that you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on these products. Many bulk affordable options are available in the market, which will not break the bank. Non-toxic toiletries have fewer allergens, so your guests who are particularly sensitive to these allergens can have a much better experience while renting your Airbnb. We love Public Goods, they even use sugarcane bottles, which look like plastic but are 100% biodegradable.

5. Provide Canvas Shopping Bags
Canvas shopping bags are the best alternative to plastic bags. They are durable and can be reused for grocery shopping or as a carry-on bag at the airport. Airbnb guests love them! They almost never pack them, so your thoughtfulness to provide them will be noticed. You can even order ones that have your Airbnb logo on them for a branded look. Make sure to place them near the front door for guests to see them right when they’re about to leave. You can get 12 canvas bags for $22, then just take them to a local print shop and they will print your logo onto them!

6. Provide Reusable Water Bottles and Coffee Cups
Water bottles and coffee cups are a large part of the waste created during travel. But with reusable water bottles and coffee cups, we can reduce our impact on the environment. Rather than leaving guests with plastic water bottles why not brand a few reusable water bottles for their stay? You can encourage your guests to feel and be more sustainable by providing them with reusable items, such as water bottles and coffee cups. They’re an excellent start for making your Airbnb more eco-friendly.
7. Provide Bikes for Guests to Use
Bicycles are a great extra amenity for your Airbnb. They are eco-friendly, but they also provide an easy way to explore the neighborhood…and they are fun! Besides the environmental benefits, bikes are also a great addition to your property because they provide cheap and sustainable transportation. It’s also an excellent opportunity for them to get exercise during their stay and see more of the city simultaneously. We provide these cute cruiser bikes and our guests love them. So many colors to choose from!
8. Offer Bulk Pantry Staples and Snacks
I provide a few jars of colorful pantry items that honestly, guests rarely even touch. It’s more to give some color and texture and an impression that you’re providing an ‘extra abundance’ such as red lentils, colored popcorn, dried French bistro beans, and garbanzo beans. I don’t fill the jars right to the top but leave a couple of inches at the top. I ask guests to please pour from these jars what they need.

9. Guide Guests with Eco-Airbnb Signs
To keep your energy costs down, sometimes a simple reminder is needed. You don’t want guests leaving the air conditioning on, with windows open for hours on end while they are out. The same goes for leaving all of the lights on, or the gas fireplace. With a few eco-friendly signs, you can help to guide your guests to be more energy conscious.

Eco-Friendly Airbnb hosting is easier than you may think – and it can help you stand out from the rest of the competition. Now you have the resources and knowledge to become an Airbnb host that prioritizes sustainability while increasing the comfort of your guests. Incorporating eco-friendly practices into your Airbnb is not only great for the environment, but it can also attract more guests who are conscious of sustainability. By implementing some or all of these ideas, you can make your property stand out and provide a memorable and sustainable experience for your guests. Remember, small changes can make a big difference.
