These DIY fabric covered baby washclothes make an adorable baby gift! This project is the cutest way to repurpose any extra fabric that you have! You can simply upgrade basic Amazon washclothes with a few stiches on the machine! The best part is that they can be whipped up in less than 15 mins! I made mine up in high contrast black and white so they would also be fun for a baby to focus on.
Materials
- 1 Package of basic white washcloths – These are super soft and inexpensive!
- Leftover fabric and thread
- Sewing machine, I used a Singer heavy duty
Instructions
Layout a washcloth and cut off the edges.
Fold over into a triangle and if there is extra trim that off (washclothes are a bit more rectangular and you want it a square)
Pin the washcloth onto your scrap fabric.
Cut out along the edge of the fabric and prepare to sew ont the machine.
Sew ย 1/4 inch stitch all around the edges, leave about 3 inches open for turning on one side.
With a pair of sharp scissors cut off the pointed corners and trim a little on the sides.
Turn the wash cloth inside out and use a wooden stick to gently push out the corners.
Place a pin and hand stitch the side closed.
You can iron the edges of the washcloth if you want it really flat then stitch all along very close the edge.
The finished fabric covered washcloth will look like this! Super cute!
Make a few and wrap them together with some ribbon or bakers twine. Great job! You have an adorable baby shower gift and you spent less than a cup of coffee to make them!
